On the Trail of Native American Civilization
Mesa Verde National Park will surprise you with its history of the Ancient Puebloans, an ancient Native American culture. Between cliffs, canyons, eroded rocks and unusual villages, you will have plenty to see and do!
The Mesa Verde National Park traces the history of an early Native American civilization, the Ancient Puebloans, and is a true cultural treasure. It is full of well preserved troglodyte caves and villages. This green plateau, Mesa Verde in Spanish, has a very dense vegetation consisting of shrubs and trees, nestled on cliffs and canyons. Visit the archaeological museum, the Chapin Mesa Museum, to see objects used and manufactured by the Ancient Puebloans. We also suggest a visit to the Cliff Palace, a small troglodyte village in good condition, located in the hollow of an alcove overlooking a canyon. This tour is not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo. The Balcony House is also worth a visit. The village overlooks the Soda Canyon from a wooden balcony.
You can depart from Albuquerque, Denver or Phoenix to take the road to the Native American lands of Colorado. You will see that the roads are very easy to drive on in a motorhome and your journey will be very pleasant.
There is a campsite at the park entrance.
