Tips and guidelines for driving a motorhome in Estonia

Basic driving rules in Estonia

Driving is always on the right hand side of the road.

You must have your national or international driver's license on you at all times.

In traffic circles, traffic moves in a counter-clockwise direction.

All of the occupants of the vehicle must wear a seat-belt, in the front of the vehicle as well as in the back. Child car seats and booster seats must also be used when necessary.

Always overtake on the left and leave a good distance before merging back into your lane especially in front of trucks.

Headlights must be used day and night.

Winter tires are required between 1 December - 1 March.

Certain parts of the road system are not in very good condition, particularly during the Winter. Be sure to use caution. 

The speed limit for motorhomes is:

  • 50 km/h in cities 
  • 80 km/h on most roads
  • 80 km/h on highways

The speed limit is generally reduced in the winter. 

There is a ZERO tolerance policy for blood-alcohol limit. 

In the case of an accident, first call: 112

Using a cell phone while driving is prohibited. 

Be aware that traffic signals differ from vertical to horizontal from one country to another. Pay attention and adjust your driving!
