Must-See in Estonia

Tour the Horizon

Estonia may be a small country, but it possesses a grand cultural richness. This beautiful and very charming Scandanavian country is perfect for more constrained budgets. Thanks to its small size in comparison to its giant neighbors to the East and North, everything seems within arms-reach in your motorhome or campervan, and this is rather true!

One can easily say the the entire country of Estonia is a must-see as there are so many things to see and discover: landscapes, traditions, architecture, and open nature...so where should we start?

From the Capital – Tallinn

This is THE must-see in Estonia. Rarely has a European city preserved so well the authenticity of its medieval center, with its clock towers and narrow cobblestone streets...the numerous influences and traces of the city's past are easily found. It's quite imortant to make a stop in Tallinn to take in the charm that this city exudes and the history of this country.

Head to the forests and natural parks.

The territory of Estonia is covered by 45% and 10% of these two, respectively.
Not only superb, sprawling, and relatively undiscovered, the forests of Estonia contain some very unique sites. In the middle of cliffs and waterfalls, one can discover an 18th century mansion, like in Lahemaa National Park, where two natural preserves are open to visitors: the Koljaku-Oandu (rainforest), and Laukasoo (700 year old marsh). Still other parks keep to old customs, such as Soomaa National Park, where one can only travel by "haabja", a type of small conoe.
Don't forget the lakes, rivers, and their small peacefull harbors such as Peipous and Pskov.

And last but not least, the islands.

The country of Estonia contains more than 1,500 islands of various sizes and intrigue. Hiiumaa, the second largest island in the country, sits within 20 kilometes of the coast and offers a true breath of fresh air. Less touristic and well-preserved, this island is particularly pleasant on foot, where you can meet several species of birds and even some welcoming locals. Saaremaa is another island not to be missed. It is sparsely populated and keeps a rather undiscovered atmosphere. It is slightly more visited and known than Hiiumaa.
As for Abruka, it is an ecological paradise during the summer with its zooligical and botanical reserves.
