Gorongosa National Park

A Unique Natural History

Founded in 1960, Gorongosa National Park was one of the most imposing nature reserves in Africa. After it was partly destroyed by poaching, the park has been rehabilitated and re-opened its doors in 1998 with a return to the emblematic fauna of the region.

Despite the exceptional damages that have been done to the park in the past, today it is home to a large number of wild animals. With a bit of luck you can view antelope, impalas, hippopotamus, elephants, and even lions. Outside of wildlife viewing, the wild landscapes found in the park are exceptional.

Chart your course by 4x4 to the misty mountains of Chimanimani for an extraordinary experience in the heart of its dense forests. These forests boast close to 100 native species, known for their medicinal qualities, and a large variety of bird species such as the barred long-tailed cuckoo, southern banded snake eagle, and the chirinda apalis.
