Aigüestortes and Lake Saint-Maurice National Park

Unique hiking trails

This national park was founded in 1955 and is the only Catalan park in the country. It is located in the heart of the Pyrenees mountain range which gives it a special biodiversity. Part of the park is more than 1000 metres above sea level and some of its peaks rise to over 3000 metres.

The park can be divided into two parts. In the eastern part the climate is continental, while in the western part it is more of an Atlantic mountain climate. The Aigüestortes park has many trees, glacial lakes, such as Lake St Maurice, and valleys, including Sant Nicolau Valley and the Escrita Valley. You can see marmots, grouse or the famous bearded vulture. There are many hiking trails amidst this unique, well preserved wilderness wilderness.
