Etna Natural Park

Hiking at the foot of a volcano

Etna Natural Park was the first of four parks created in Sicily. It was established in 1987 and is home to the highest active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna. Vegetation and urbanization in the region are directly linked to the activity of the volcano and give it a special landscape.

You can rent your motorhome from Catania or Palermo to visit this park. There are two areas near the volcano. Zone A is a huge, protected wilderness uninhabited by man due to the ongoing volcanic acitivity. Zone B is an area of cultural heritage and traditional activities that reflect the unique history of the area and is protected from the volcanic activity. Many walks are possible around the volcano, such as the relatively easy path to the Silvestri Craters.
