A cultural mix reflecting a colonial past

In the center of the country and in the heart of the Namibian mountains, Windhoek is a gentle mix of modernity and cultural diversity. The combination of roads and railways makes it a major commercial attraction for its medium size.

The city itself has nothing to do with the wilderness of the rest of the country, yet its Germanic feel and dominant colonial architecture will amaze you. During your touring trip in a motorhome, a stop in the capital will allow you to settle some administrative issues if necessary but also to stroll in the historical center and its pedestrian streets.

Between the modern buildings and the colonial houses try to find one of the most famous landmarks of the capital: Christuskirche, a Lutheran church of neo-Gothic and art nouveau style built between 1907 and 1910.

But this medium-sized city is often overlooked compared to the riches of the rest of Namibia. The city is full of sights to discover. For example, visit the railway station with its old locomotives, which are a true testimony of the colonial occupation. You can discover the history of Namibia at the Old Fort Historical Museum, the exhibition will enlighten you on the situation of Namibia in the last centuries.

The Namibian capital is also a gateway to the various routes that lead to the Etosha National Park in the north, the Namib Desert in the west or the Fish River Canyon in the south.
