Immense and sublime
In the north of the Namib Desert the gigantic Namib-Naukluft National Park was created. On an area of almost 50,000 km², the fourth largest park in the world is home to a huge sea of dunes, including Sossuvlei, which is a must-see.
In the region since 1907 some territories start to be protected in order to conserve the fauna and flora and to develop the Namibian nature. In 1979, the largest nature reserve in Namibia was created, consisting of granite mountains, estuaries and canyons, sand dunes and gypsum and quartz plains.
In the Naukluft mountain three rivers have their source. The Tsondab in the north, the Tsams in the west and the Tsanchab in the south. They are now dried up, except during heavy rainfall. This high mountainous plateau overlooking the Namib Desert is nevertheless home to a rich fauna and flora.
In the rocky formations and other ravines, small basins with crystal clear water allow to bathe and oases of greenery persist in some places. With a little luck and patience you can see kudu, zebra, baboon and springbok, while in the mountains you can see leopard, cheetah and hyena.

Extraordinary country with many campsites and a developed road network.
Avoid driving at night and always spend the night in established campsites.
It is important to reserve your campsite in advance during peak seasons.
For 5 - 6 passengers we recommend booking long in advance.
For certain park and nature reserve roads (except Kruger) a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
