The Cairngorms

An adventure in the heart of the Highlands

The Cairngorms National Park is located in the northeast of the country and is the largest national park in Great Britain. Established in 2003, it houses the Cairngorms mountain range and vast landscapes of lakes and wild forests. Its beauty can be compared to that of the Hardangervidda Park in Norway.

This Scottish park is home to nearly 25% of the endangered species in the UK and with a little luck, patience and a good pair of binoculars you can see red squirrels, deer and golden eagles. Many activities are possible, such as skiing, wind surfing, canoeing and kayaking. Fishing enthusiasts can travel along the rivers Dee and Don, and the River Spey offers some of the best Salmon fishing in the world. Blair Atholl and Atholl Estates have 50 miles of hiking and biking trails. Many majestic castles still stand today in the heart of the park and you can also visit the Glenlivet Distillery in Tomintoul for some great whiskey tastings.
