• Basic rules of driving a campervan in France
• The driver must always be on the right side.
• Pedestrians must always look left before crossing.
• All occupants of motorhomes must wear a seat belt (see also child seat or booster seat).
• It is essential to carry your national or European Community driving licence. If this is not the case, you must have an ASSURED TRANSLATION (please contact us).
• Fatigue is a cause of accidents in France because of the distances, it is strongly advised to take a break every two hours.
• Traffic is counter-clockwise in roundabouts.
• Always overtake from the left and allow a long distance before falling back, especially in front of a truck.

Speeds in France 

• In town is 50 km/h .
• On departmental roads is 80km/h or 90km/h depending on the department. Pay attention to the road signs.
• On the highways is 130km/h or 110km/h when it rains.
  The legal blood alcohol level is 0.05% maximum.
• You drive in a camper van, at toll booths and at petrol stations use the truck lan.

Driving safely in France

France is a big country it is important when calculating the time of your route to take into account slowdowns when passing through towns or villages, as well as weather conditions which can at any time considerably reduce your average speed.

If you are travelling on country roads, you may encounter animals, especially at night. It is preferable to stop and not to go around the animal at the risk of frightening it (think that a car may arrive in the other direction).

Don't forget that your motorhome is longer and higher than a car: keep an eye on the road signs indicating the height, on the awnings or on the tree branches in campsites (also be careful when reversing with obstacles that may be high up).

Please note that a two-wheel drive vehicle may only be driven on paved roads (unless otherwise stated in our general terms and conditions). All-terrain vehicles or 4x4s can drive on tracks but there may be restrictions which you can also find in our general rental conditions.

Tolls in France

On the highways, you'll stop at toll stations. You pay according to the volume of your vehicle, the motorhome is classified in category 2. You must use the lane reserved for trucks.

You can pay in cash only with euros or by credit card.
