Iguazu

Spectacular!

The Iguazu National Park was created in 1934 and protects the famous Iguaza Falls. This is one of the most beautiful natural sites in the country and one of the most visited. The site was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.

The falls are situated on the Brazil-Argentina border, each with its own protected park and characteristics. The Argentinean park, northwest of Misiones province, houses the majority of the falls formed at the confluence of the Iguazu and Parana Rivers. The falls extend over nearly 3 km and are 80 metres high. They are made up of many waterfalls forming a striking arc shape. There are specially designed walkways over the falls offering spectacular views. Devil's Throat offers the best views being 80 metres high. The falls are surrounded by a humid and dense subtropical forest with a high biodiversity and fauna including caimans, jaguars, anteaters, tapirs, howler monkeys and ocelots. There are over 2000 plant species and over 400 bird species, such as toucans, parrots and the famous vencejo.
