Oulanka National Park

Anything but monotonous

Oulanka National Park was created in 1956 and is another well preserved, pristine park in Finland. It is at the edge of the Arctic Circle making it home to a very unique biodiversity.

The park is a paradise for hikers but it is necessary to be well equipped before departing. The Route of the Bear, or Karhunkierros, is an 80 km circuit that circles the park. It is also possible to travel down the rivers and enjoy the impressive rapids. The best known river descents are Kiutaköngäs on the Oulanka river and Jyrävä on the Kitka River. The park is smaller than others but generally more popular due to its perfect, uniquely northern beauty. There are a few rustic cabins for hikers.
