One Week From Sintra to Sintra

This itinerary is simply a rough outline to inspire you in the choice of your stops. All distances are not exact, as they can vary greatly depending on the type of roads you take (highway, secondary roads...), and the sites that you wish to visit. 

Don't hesitate to take some smaller side roads and experience the small villages and beautiful landscapes! It is by doing this that you will discover the heart of Portugal, its people, and the local lifestyle...

Possible itinerary (can also be done in reverse order):

- From Sintra you will head west, to the Atlantic coast, and head up the coastline until you reach Peniche. 

- From hear the road heads inland (towards the east), up until you cross the Tajo River and arrive in the northern region of Alentejo. 

- From Abrantes, set a course for the South and head to Evora before meeting back up with the Atlantic coast at the Taje river delta. 

- Finally, head back to Lisbon and its surrounding areas. 

 

Sintra – Starting Point.
Highlights of the area: Pena Park, a forest of 200 hectares, which houses the Mouros Castle, the National Palace of Pena. Cabo de Roca, cliffs and headlands overlooking the ocean, the westernmost point of the European Continent. Discover the wines in Colares. For beaches, Samarra, Praia Grande, and Adraga. 

Ericeira – Campground
To see in the area: Mafra National Palace, 11 km to the east.

Peniche Praia/Baleal – Campgrounds
To see in the area: Berlanga Island

(Peniche – Obidos: 25km)

Obidos – Service Station (dump station for the motorhome)
To the north: Nazaré/Sitio; Alcobaça Monastery; Bathala Monastery; Fatima.
To the east: Santarém; The Almourol Fortress.

Tomar/Abrantes – Campground
Tomar, the town of the Knights Templar
Take a detour to the north to visit the Roman ruins of Conimbriga.

(Abrantes – Estremoz: 100km)

Evora – Campground
Before getting to Evora: Visit Estremoz, a small village on the way.
To the east: Monsaraz Castle.

(Evora – Setubal: 100km)

Setubàl – Campground
To see in the area: Natural Parks; Sesimbra; Costa de Caparica Beach; Cabo de Espichel (overlook).
To the north, before crossing the Vasco de Gama bridge to returning to Lisbon: Visit the Taje Delta Nature Preserve around Montijo.

Lisbonne – Campround
To see in the area: Queluz Castle.
To get to the center of town, leave the camper at the Monsanto Municipal campground and take the 714 bus.

 

Head back to Sintra.

A wonderful country to visit by motorhome as there is good infrastructure and the people are welcoming

If you prefer to visit the north with its unique traditions, check motorhome availability in advance

One-way trips are not possible here. Lisbon to Porto is unfortunately impossible!

Camping along the beaches is tolerated but be discreet. Long may it last!
