Montesinho Natural Park

Away from the tourist spots

The Montesinho Natural Park was established in 1979 and is located in the extreme northeast of Portugal covering some 75 000 hectares. It is home to unique historical sites and a variety of landscapes. Two summits culminate in the park, the Serra de Montesinho in the east of the park (1500 metres high) and the Serra da Coroa (crown) in the west (500 metres high).

Exploring Montesinho Natural Park by motorhome is an ideal solution. The park is huge with many beautiful sights and hiking trails.

Near Dine neolithic caves were discovered in the last few decades. Towards Moimenta ancient buildings can be seen, such as a medieval bridge. Don't miss Bragança and its medieval centre and beautiful castle.

On the banks of the Maças River, near Quintanilla, you can take a dip to cool off on a hot summer day.

Near the Baceiro River there are former lime kilns and water mills with typical architecture of the region. The top of Montesinho has splendid panoramas. In the Lombada national hunting area near Guadramil you may see wolves in the pine forests or deer near the marshes.
