The wine route

Exploring the Wine Country

The "Wine Country" is one of the more well known routes of the American continent and consists mainly of two world-renowned wine valleys, Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. Starting your motorhome road trip from Calistoga travelling towards Napa, you will surely enjoy this truly magnificent region. CampingCar-Online/Ramble Campervans also suggests a wine route itinerary starting from San Francisco.

Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley lie northeast of San Francisco and together include more than 300 wineries. The sale of wines from this region represents 50% of the US wine market, and the good quality of the wine has raised the reputation of the region. The Wine Country is also a beautiful area and good for outdoor activities such as golf or hiking. Plus, you'll have no trouble finding campsites in the area.

Napa Valley best defines the wine country and is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon. There are over 200 wineries spread over 30 miles in the valley. The biggest names in the area include Robert Mondavi, Domaine Chandon, Beringer and Sterling. The best concentration of wineries is situated along Saint Helena Highway (Highway 29) and the Silverado Trail. Enjoy some great wine tasting and admire the beautiful scenery of the vast vineyards.

If you have time, visit Sonoma Valley, just 31 miles from San Francisco and 24 miles from Napa Valley. Sonoma Valley is home to about 40 wineries spread over 17 miles that are worth a visit.
